Nori's Cove is a small fishing village on the cold northwestern coast. Remote, quiet, and unlikely to matter to anyone. Lirra, a seventeen-year-old Circle-Keeper's apprentice, would like nothing more than to leave it behind. Oru, the village's ancient Memory-Holder, has been hoping to die here in peace.
Neither of them gets what they want.
Something is growing in the east. Slowly - but measurably. And the village's only ally with the standing to do anything about it is Hekka Thornwater of the Cedar Clan, a week's hard travel away in the city of Greyvast.
So Oru goes, because someone has to. Davrak - an aging Islander warrior with old wounds and older secrets - goes because she shouldn't go alone. Toven Grath - the Imperial Augur who discovered the problem - goes because he needs a new telescope. And Lirra goes because she begged, and because there is someone in Greyvast she needs to meet, and a future she hasn't told anyone she's been imagining.
(The series will be called 'The Fractured Lattice', but I haven't settled on a name yet for this book. Please let me know if you have any ideas.)
